what support is actually out there?
This week I’ve been thinking about gatekeeping support and how you don’t know what you don’t know.
Especially when there’s tonnes of support out there, it’s just sometimes hard to know where to start or look.
I met with someone last week to help them with their application for getting 14x mindfulness sessions with me fully funded.
The one thing I want to talk about this week is Access to Work.
It’s interesting that so many ADHDers still don’t know about it.
It’s a UK government grant for adults with ADHD in both paid employment or self-employment to help them find the support they need.
It can cover more tangible items like equipment and also coaching fees that aren’t the cheapest thing in the world.
As a lot of my work is focused on supporting the emotional side of ADHD in the workplace especially, I also take on Access to Work participants.
I'm currently taking on new 1:1 participants before I take a break over the summer and have a few slots left before reaching my capacity. You can use this form and I’ll see if it's something that might be suitable for where you're currently at.
Hustle culture makes it easy to believe that overloading your systems for maximum productivity is the way to go although this almost always probes burnout.
When you learn how to regulate in-the-moment, you can retain your energy levels, close loops faster in your head and anchor yourself whenever your mind has ran away or overwhelm is rising.
I’ve used it twice in roles before which was super helpful as it allowed me to work with coaches without having to spend a penny.
The only drawback is that it still took like 8 months from application to receiving the funding grant so if you think it could be helpful, it’s worth looking into and doing today.
I’m curious, have you heard of access to work or ever tried it before? Perhaps you’ll leave a comment or reply to this email to let me know. I read & reply to every response.
If any of this is resonating and you’d like to explore whether the mindfulness with ADHD model I’ve created could work for you… reply to this email with ‘Mindful’ and I’ll share a bit about how it’s helping the other professionals who use it.
Speak soon,
Jack
